It's amazing how many people don't reconcile their bank accounts on a monthly basis. To me this is essential to keeping track of your finances. Especially if you are using a debit card. This way you can make sure that every bank transaction is valid and that you have accounted for them all.
If you aren't keeping track of what is happening in your bank account how will you know if you are a victim of fraud or identity theft?
With online banking access it is easier than ever to track this. I highly recommend it for everyone - business and personal.

A Quarterly Checkup
Even if you do your own bookkeeping, you may want someone to look it over before you give it to your accountant. Many accountants are blunt about sloppy books or bank statements that don’t reconcile. They will tell clients they must file for an extension, redo their books or get another accountant.
A quarterly checkup by an accounting professional can save you time and money by ensuring that your books are current and accurate.
